Tales of the unexpected beauty of Granada have been told a thousand times. None of this is surprising due to the Granada’s Moorish style monuments, streets, squares and fountains and the spectacular Alhambra palace of Granada (World Heritage) on high watching over the entire city.
Granada is reputed for it’s beauty, but once you have actually seen it you will not be able to believe how beautiful it is, nor forget it; Granada will seduce you entirely. It's a city for strolling about, discovering narrow streets, and casually taking in the atmosphere and the history while gazing at it’s impressive monuments and particular Moorish architecture.
Granada has other monuments too, and although they are often eclipsed by the Alhambra they do merit spending some more time in the city to visit them. The Cathedral and the Capilla Real, the San Jerónimo and la Cartuja monestaries, the Dar Al-horra Arabic Palace and the Chapiz Moorish houses are just some of the many monuments which make this city so beautiful. Two of the most well-known and popular districts of Granada are the AlbacyÃn and Realejo, with their strong Moorish influences, narrow alleyways, whitewashed houses and splendid views. In these areas you will see the best examples of architecture specific to Granada: ‘el Carmen’, a type of patio bringing the house, garden and terrace together all at once. Further down in the AlbayzÃn district you will come across a street with a special charm, Calle Del Darro, which starts at the Plaza de Santa Ana and ends at the Paseo de los Tristes. Taking this street you will leave the modern city behind you and the views will change dramatically. The Sacromonte hill rises up next to the AlbaycÃn in front of the Generalife. This is the gypsy district and is partly abandoned but still has some taverns where flamenco shows take place.
